Professional Certifications and Licensure Disclosures
North American University Narrative:
North American University (NAU) is required under federal regulation (effective July 1, 2024) to disclose information about its programs that lead to professional licensure or certification necessary for employment. Specifically, NAU must disclose whether these programs fulfill the educational requirements for licensure or certification in each state where students reside.
Currently, NAU’s Education programs are the only programs offered that lead directly to professional licensure or certification. These Education programs are fully approved by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and fulfill Texas state licensure requirements. Some states have indicated they will recognize NAU’s Education programs once a graduate obtains a Texas teaching license.
NAU is actively engaged in outreach to other states to determine if our Education programs meet their specific licensure requirements. We have compiled a table indicating the states where our Education programs currently meet state standards. This information is accessible here:
Programs such as Business Administration, Computer Science, and Criminal Justice do not lead to professional licensure or certification and therefore are not subject to these disclosures.
Each state’s licensing authority independently establishes and enforces professional licensing requirements, which may change. Students are strongly encouraged to verify licensing requirements directly with the appropriate state agency prior to enrollment and periodically throughout their program.
Completion of a North American University program does not guarantee employment or licensure in any state. Additionally, some states may require criminal background checks prior to granting licensure or certification, which could affect eligibility. Students are responsible for determining if any circumstances may pose a barrier to their licensure or certification.
For additional questions or assistance in determining if your selected Education program is authorized in a specific state, please contact the Education Department directly.
State Authorization
North American University is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA) This membership allows NAU to deliver distance education programs and supervised field experiences to residents of states other than Texas. However, NC-SARA membership does not exempt NAU from state-specific professional licensing requirements. Thus, meeting licensure requirements in Texas does not automatically imply that the program fulfills requirements in other states.
International Students
Prior to enrolling, international students residing or planning employment outside the United States should confirm with the relevant certifying agency in their country that the NAU degree will fulfill local credentialing requirements for their intended profession or further education.
Student Location Notice
Professional licensure requirements differ by location, and NAU is required to disclose to students whether programs meet the licensure requirements in the student’s current location. A student’s location is determined by their current physical address at the time of enrollment in a licensure or certification program, not their permanent residence.
How to Make Changes to Student Location
Students may notify North American University of a change in their location by changing their student record current address information. Students may change their current address information by filling out the Change of Name or Address Request Form and submit on their Portal. If they need additional help, they can get by contacting the Registrar in one of the following ways:
