In order to obtain admission to NAU, an international student must submit the following documents by the application deadlines. All application documents should be properly scanned and emailed in PDF format to intadmissions@na.edu :
- COPY OF PASSPORT: Only the photograph and visa (when received) page are necessary.
- OFFICIAL ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS & TEST SCORES: Official Copy of the High School Diploma Evaluation (The transcript has to be evaluated at one of the agencies listed CLICK HERE ), official SAT/ACT, official TOEFL or official IELTS scores. NOTE: A document is considered “official” if it is sent to us directly from the issuing institution either by electronic means or in a sealed envelope. Please use the following school codes when ordering official test scores: SAT: 6558; ACT: 4313; TOEFL: 7304
- OTHER SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS: Reference letters, proof of achievement letters, certificates, etc.
- FINANCIAL STATUS: Bank letter and International Financial Support Form (Sponsorship Letter). Before a U.S. consul will grant a visa, you must prove that you will have sufficient money to meet all your expenses while studying in the United States. You must explain the source of your funds and guarantee that you will receive them while attending your studies in the US. See Cost of Attendance below.
- U.S. INSTITUTION TRANSFER: If you are a transferring from another U.S. institution to NAU, please submit a copy of your current I-20 and a signed copy of the Student Advisor Form
IMPORTANT NOTE: ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION PROCESS.

Poor quality scanned documents will not be accepted.
North American University requires that applicants obtain their I-20 by one of two shipping options.
Option 1: North American University will ship out your I-20 form globally to any country that offers DHL services. This is a $100 fee independent of location.
Option 2: Applicants have the other choice to order shipments at study.eshipglobal.com. An account must be created with all the relevant information correctly provided. The shipment should be created upon receiving an acceptance letter from the admissions office.
Important Note: Do not order a shipment, until you receive a confirmation email of your acceptance.
* A full refund will be made to any student who cancels the enrollment within three days (excluding weekends and legal holidays) after an enrollment agreement is signed. If a student cancels the enrollment more than three class days after signing an enrollment agreement but prior to attending any class, the student will get a full refund minus the application fee and/or enrollment confirmation fee.
All international students must demonstrate English proficiency in addition to the admission requirements. English proficiency can be demonstrated in one of the following ways:
- TOEFL: 79 IBT, 550 PBT, 213 CBT
- IELTS: 6.5
- Duolingo: 105
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 53
- Cambridge English Advanced (CAE): Overall score of 58 or Overall grade C or above
- SAT Scores prior to March 2016: Reading Section: 500, Writing Section: 500; SAT Scores March 2016 to present: Reading Test: 27, Writing and Language Test: 29
- ACT English: 23
- Composition and Rhetoric I with a grade of “C” or better from a U.S. based college or university.
- TSI or its equivalent in other states
- An associate degree or higher from a U.S. institution
- Completion of a degree or high school in an English speaking country*
- Completion of the Gulf Language School Intensive English Program at NAU
Partially English proficient undergraduate students are required to successfully complete remedial reading and writing courses given at NAU in their first semester, or successfully complete the Developmental Reading and Writing course offered at Gulf Language School’s Intensive English Program at NAU.

Students who wish to pursue graduate study directed toward developing leadership knowledge and skills may pursue a master’s degree here at North American University. The application for our Master’s program is dependent on the program of choice, each program has it’s own specific requirements and vary between programs.

For International students applying for our Master’s Program must fulfill a language competency:
Applicants are required to show proficiency in English Language. To show language proficiency, international applicants are required to submit a minimum of TOEFL Score: 79 or equivalent (paper based-550, CBT-213, IELTS 6)
Applicants who score 61 to 78 in TOEFL (or equivalent) may be accepted on the condition to take 2 remedial courses in English and pass those courses successfully.
Applicants who score 60 or below (or Equivalent) must attend North American University Intensive English Program Level 6 and successfully complete that level. Those students who complete NAU Intensive English Program Level 6 may still be required to take remedial courses in English.
TOEFL score requirement could be waived if the applicant provides evidence of 3 or more years of relevant work experience that requires high level communication skills. The relevancy of the work experience and the determination of the language proficiency based on the entire application package are solely at the discretion of the admission committee.
OR
English Proficiency must be met if undergraduate degree was received outside the U.S. from a non-English speaking country:**
• Option 1: 2 Years teaching experience in English – verification of work history to be sent directly from the Human Resources department.
• Option 2: TOEFL ( IBT 79) or equivalent nationally recognized standardized tests. If you cannot prove you are English Proficient from these two common ways, you may still have options. Talk to your admission counselor at 832-362-0129.
• Option 3: If you graduated from a higher institution where the language of instruction is English.

After receiving the I20, the applicant must complete the following steps in order to apply for a visa at the U.S. Embassy:
- Step 1. Get your I-20
- Step 2. Pay your SEVIS Fee

- Step 4. Schedule visa interview date
- Step 5. Preparation for the interview – practice questions and have documents ready

It is very important to be well prepared for the Visa interview. Be sure to google “visa interview questions”. For instance, please check the following link CLICK HERE. Answer them all based on your situation.

Small Tips:
- Be confident and don’t be shy.
- Arrive to at the US Embassy at least 30 minutes prior your interview time.
- You should know answers to the following questions such about as your school name, program you applied to, why you applied to this particular program, where you will a stay and who will cover your financial obligations.
- Answers should be short but to the point.
- Be polite and do not forget to greet the US Counselor. Smile all the time and be sure to maintain good eye contact throughout the interview.
- Your financial status will be discussed in depth. If anybody is sponsoring you, please provide all necessary documentations, such as sponsorship letter, employment verification letter and income statement.
- It is important to discuss how you will use your degree once you return to your home country. Demonstrate your strong ties to your home country and that you will return upon receiving your degree.
- Please research on Google and YouTube more about the visa preparation.
VISA GRANTED APPLICANTS

- Date and Time of Arrival
- Departure and Arrival Airports
- Housing Application: email to housing@na.edu
- Meningitis Vaccination: Fill out the Meningitis Form. NAU accepts only MCV4 and MPSV4 types of vaccinations. 22 and older applicants are not required to take the Meningitis vaccination. Without proper meningitis vaccinations, the applicant will not be able to register for the classes.
